Running Clubs in British Columbia
Use the city or town filter first. Most runners want a group close to home, work, or school. Click the club name to check the latest schedule, then confirm the meeting spot before you go. If you feel nervous about joining, look for beginner friendly, walk run, all paces, or no-drop wording.

Filter by location first, then narrow the list by run style, cost, or beginner fit.
Northern BC note: Prince George, Smithers, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Dawson Creek, and Fort St. John are included because northern runners are often missed in province-wide lists. Know a current group in Kitimat, Vanderhoof, Mackenzie, Chetwynd, Burns Lake, or Fort Nelson? Email hello@runninggearlab.com so it can be added.

How to choose a running club in BC
What running is like in BC
BC is not one kind of running place. A runner in Vancouver may be looking for a rainy seawall group. A runner in Kamloops may want dry trails and summer morning runs. A runner in Prince George, Smithers, or Fort St. John may need a group that keeps going through snow, dark mornings, and long winter months.
Coastal runners deal with rain
In Vancouver, Victoria, the North Shore, Richmond, Surrey, and the Island, a good club often runs through wet weather. Check if the group meets year round and whether the route changes when it is dark or slippery.
The trails are a big part of the culture
BC has a strong trail running scene, especially around North Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Chilliwack, Nelson, Fernie, Revelstoke, Kelowna, Kamloops, Powell River, and Vancouver Island. If you are new to trails, ask about pace, route distance, hills, and required gear before joining.
The Interior can feel very different
Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon, Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Golden, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson, and Cranbrook can have hot dry summers and colder winter mornings. Morning runs, shaded routes, rail trails, and flexible start times can matter more here.
Northern BC deserves more attention
Prince George, Smithers, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Dawson Creek, and Fort St. John have runners too. Clubs in smaller northern communities can be especially helpful because they make it easier to stay consistent when weather and daylight are tough.
Island running has its own feel
Victoria has a large running community, but there are also groups in Nanaimo, Courtenay, Duncan, Parksville Qualicum, Sooke, Campbell River, Port Alberni, Salt Spring Island, Sidney, Nanoose Bay, and Port Hardy.
BC clubs are not all race focused
Some runners join to train for a marathon or trail race. Others just want a safe weekly routine, a social group, or a free 5K. Use the filters to find the type of group that matches your life right now.
Local tip: If you are choosing between two clubs, pick the one that is easier to get to on a normal weekday. The best club is usually the one you can attend often, not the one that looks perfect online.
How to use the club links
Click the club name to check the latest meeting spot, schedule, and sign up details. Some BC groups use a website. Others use Instagram, Facebook, Strava, a store page, a parkrun page, a local tourism page, or a public event listing.

BC running club FAQ
Are running clubs in BC free?
Some are free. Many social crews, store runs, and parkrun 5K events are free. Clubs with coaching, track programs, clinics, or race training often charge a membership or program fee.
How do I find a beginner friendly running club?
Use the city filter first, then choose the beginner friendly filter. Look for words like walk run, all paces, no-drop, beginners welcome, or parkrun.
What should I ask before joining a group run?
Ask about the meeting spot, route distance, pace range, whether the run is no-drop, whether walk breaks are okay, and what happens in bad weather.
What should I bring to my first group run?
Bring shoes you can run in, clothing for the weather, water if the run is longer, and a light or reflective gear for dark morning or evening runs. For trail runs, check if the group expects trail shoes, a headlamp, or extra layers.
Are there trail running clubs in BC?
Yes. BC has trail groups in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, the Kootenays, the Sunshine Coast, qathet, the Cariboo, and northern BC. Use the trail filter to narrow the list.
Should I join a store run, social run club, or coached club?
Choose a store run or parkrun if you want an easy first step. Choose a social crew if you want community. Choose a coached club if you want workouts, race training, or track sessions.
How do I add a club to this list?
Email hello@runninggearlab.com with the club name, city or town, website or social link, meeting spot, run days, pace range, cost, and whether beginners are welcome.
