About Running Gear Lab
Running Gear Lab helps runners choose better shoes, gear, watches, and training tools without spending hours researching on their own.
Our goal is simple: give runners clear, practical advice that helps them train better, race smarter, and feel more confident about the gear they use.
We know that the “best” running shoe or watch is not always the flashiest or most expensive option. The right choice depends on your body, your goals, your training, your budget, and where you run.
Why Running Gear Lab exists
Running gear can be confusing. One runner may need a soft daily trainer. Another may need extra stability, a wider toe box, trail traction, or a watch with better battery life.
Running Gear Lab was created to make those choices easier. We build helpful guides, comparison articles, and simple tools so runners can find options that fit their real needs.
What we cover
We focus on the parts of running that most runners ask about:
- Running shoes for different foot types, goals, and distances
- Running watches and training tech
- Clothing, gear, and accessories for everyday running
- Marathon, trail, and ultra running guides
- Training tools, calculators, and planning resources
Our approach to reviews and guides
We try to write every guide with the same question in mind: “What would actually help a runner make a better decision?”
That means we look at comfort, fit, durability, performance, price, and who each product is best for. We also try to explain who should avoid a product, because not every shoe, watch, or piece of gear works for every runner.
Our content is written and edited with a runner-first approach. We want our articles to be useful, easy to understand, and honest about trade-offs.
How Running Gear Lab helps runners
Whether you are training for your first 5K, choosing your next pair of daily trainers, planning a marathon, or looking for better trail gear, we want Running Gear Lab to feel like a helpful running friend.

Meet the Writers, Editors and Running Experts

Justin James
I’m a runner, a dad, a writer, just trying to help runners make better decisions. My running career started back in 2013 getting into olympic triathlons, increasing to full distance Ironmans in 2017, and since focusing on trail running and Ultra Running races.
Through the process of run training as a hobby and trying to train the least possible to avoid injury and still compete at the Ironman distance, I’ve put years of research and testing into simple running routines and techniques. As a writer, working with coaches and experts we take their experience and provide articles to help runners at every level.
