Where to Stay for the Boston Marathon 2027: Hotels & Race Weekend Guide
Boston Marathon 2027 trip planner
Where should you stay for the Boston Marathon?
The easiest Boston Marathon hotel is usually not near the start in Hopkinton. It is in Boston, where you can reach the official buses in the morning and get back to your room without a complicated trip after the finish.
Quick answer: If this is your first Boston and the price is manageable, stay between Boston Common and Copley Square. Back Bay is best for the walk after the finish. Park Square and the Public Garden edge are better for reaching the race-morning buses. For a lower-cost search, try Cambridge or Somerville, but only near a useful subway station.

What is confirmed for Boston 2027?
The B.A.A. has confirmed that the 131st Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 19, 2027. The course remains a point-to-point route from Hopkinton to Boston.
Some 2027 details are still pending. As of September 16, 2026, the full participant guide, start schedule, bus times, Expo hours and race-day station closures have not been published. Recent arrangements are useful for planning, but they are not promises for 2027.

Best areas to stay for the Boston Marathon
Judge each hotel by the whole weekend. Check the route to the buses, the walk from the finish, bib pickup and the nearest useful subway station. “Near the course” is not enough.
| Area | Best for | Main catch |
|---|---|---|
| Back Bay / Copley Square | First-time runners and the shortest practical post-race walk | Highest demand, heavy crowds and usually higher prices |
| Park Square / Public Garden / Theatre District | Walking to the recent Charles Street bus-loading area | Farther from the Expo side of Back Bay |
| Prudential / Hynes | Current Expo location and Back Bay restaurants | Longer walk to the race-morning buses; Hynes station is not accessible |
| Downtown Crossing / Beacon Hill | Central sightseeing and subway access | Longer post-race walk than Copley or Park Square |
| Cambridge / Somerville | A quieter base and a wider price search | Choose by subway access, not neighbourhood name alone |
| Fenway / Kenmore / Brookline | Spectators and access to the final miles | Course crossings and the return from the finish require planning |
| Seaport | Modern hotels or availability when central rooms are gone | Not especially close to the buses, finish or Expo |
| Natick / Hopkinton area | Travellers with local support and a confirmed transport plan | Most race-weekend activity and the finish are back in Boston |
A hotel close to the start is an exception, not the default. It can work when a local driver or an official package handles the morning trip and you have a clear way back after the race. Otherwise, staying in Boston is simpler.
Hotels worth checking first
These are examples from the official 2027 hotel list, not paid rankings. They are included because their locations solve different race-weekend problems. Compare the complete stay, cancellation rules and room setup before booking.
Finish-area location
Fairmont Copley Plaza
A central Copley Square option for runners who value the post-race walk and want to stay in the middle of marathon weekend.
Check: minimum stay, cancellation terms and the total price.
Back Bay base
Westin Copley Place
Close to the finish area with indoor access to Copley Place. It suits runners who want to handle much of the weekend on foot.
Check: room-block rules and where you will exit the secured finish area.
Large central hotel
Boston Marriott Copley Place
A practical Back Bay option for travellers who want restaurants, shops and the finish area nearby.
Check: occupancy limits and whether the room works for the entire family.
Race-morning location
Hilton Boston Park Plaza
Near the Public Garden and the bus-loading area used in recent years. It also remains walkable from the controlled finish exit.
Check: mandatory charges and the room type, not only the headline rate.
Bus-side alternative
W Boston
A Theatre District option close to Boston Common and the Public Garden. Recent runners often mention the location as the main advantage.
Check: weekend noise and the three-night minimum in the current official room block.
Current Expo area
Sheraton Boston
Convenient for the Hynes and Prudential area. Marathon Tours currently lists the official course tour as departing from this hotel.
Check: the longer race-morning walk and the final 2027 Expo location.
Cambridge transit option
Boston Marriott Cambridge
Beside Kendall/MIT on the Red Line. It is worth comparing when Back Bay prices are too high and a subway trip is acceptable.
Check: first-train timing and your post-race route back from the finish.
Seaport fallback
Renaissance Boston Seaport
A possible choice when central availability is poor. Some recent guests have reported race-morning shuttle help, but that service must be confirmed directly for 2027.
Check: the exact hotel shuttle, transit and walking plan before paying.
Read the room-block terms. Marathon Tours currently lists a two-night minimum at most hotels and a three-night minimum at several popular properties. Its 2027 policy also includes a non-refundable 5% administrative fee and cancellation charges that increase as race weekend approaches. A direct hotel rate can have different rules.
What recent runners say about location
Runner discussions repeat the same lesson: transit access matters more than the distance shown on a hotel listing. Cambridge can be an effective compromise when the hotel is close to the Red or Green Line. Seaport receives more mixed feedback because it can be too far from the main race locations without being inexpensive enough to make up for it.
The trip after the finish is the part people underestimate. A 25-minute train ride may feel easy on Saturday. It can feel very different after 26.2 miles. Several runners also describe post-race rideshares as slow or difficult because of closures and crowds.
These are recurring experiences, not official rules. Your result will depend on the exact hotel, transit service and race-day restrictions.
How race morning works
Boston is not a city marathon where most runners walk from the hotel to the start. Hopkinton is roughly a marathon west of the finish. The B.A.A. recommends its official participant transportation.
Recent arrangement
Buses from Charles Street
For 2026, participant buses loaded between Boston Common and the Public Garden. Runners had to show their bib. Family and friends could not board.
Easy to miss
Gear check happens in Boston
In the recent setup, runners checked the approved clear gear bag near the finish area before heading to the buses. Normal gear bags were not transported from Hopkinton to Boston.
Wait for your instructions
Do not reuse an old bus time
The loading schedule changes with waves and bib assignments. Build the final morning plan only after the 2027 participant guide and your instructions are available.
Before booking: map the walking route from the hotel entrance to Charles Street near the Public Garden. Do not judge the distance from the centre of a neighbourhood.
Bib pickup and the Boston Marathon Expo
The official 2027 accommodation page currently identifies the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center at 900 Boylston Street as the number-pickup location. The detailed 2027 B.A.A. schedule has not been released, so confirm the venue, dates and hours before travelling.
Recent B.A.A. rules require runners to collect their own bib with a digital pickup pass and government-issued photo identification. Do not assume another person can collect it for you.
If you are flying to Boston, avoid a tight Sunday arrival. Friday or Saturday gives you more room for delays, bib pickup, a short shakeout and a calm pre-race dinner.
Getting from Logan Airport to your hotel
Most runners staying in central Boston do not need a rental car. Parking is expensive, and road closures make a car less useful on race day.
Back Bay Logan Express
As of September 2026, Massport lists the trip from Logan into Back Bay as free and the return trip to the airport as $3. Recheck the fare and stops before travelling.
Silver Line SL1
The SL1 connects the airport with South Station. Travel from Logan is currently free, which can suit Downtown and some Seaport stays.
Taxi or rideshare
This can be easier with children, mobility needs or several bags. Compare the live price when you land because traffic changes the value quickly.
What happens after you finish?
The finish is on Boylston Street, but runners do not step across the line and immediately leave. You continue through a controlled system for medals, fluids, food and recovery before exiting.
In the recent setup, the Family Meeting Area was on Stuart Street between Berkeley and Clarendon, with alphabetized meeting signs. The B.A.A. warns that reaching it takes time.
Make a backup plan before race day. Choose an exact meeting letter and a second location outside the controlled area. Copley station normally closes on Marathon Monday, roads are restricted and mobile service can be busy. Confirm the 2027 transit plan before choosing the backup location.
A simple Boston Marathon weekend plan
- Friday or Saturday: arrive, check in and buy anything you forgot. Keep unnecessary walking under control.
- Saturday: collect your bib if the final schedule allows it. Walk the route between your hotel, the finish exit and the family meeting area.
- Sunday: do a short shakeout, eat familiar food and prepare everything for the morning. Confirm your official bus and gear-check instructions.
- Monday morning: leave with extra time. Use your 2027 instructions, not a schedule saved from another year.
- After the finish: move through the official finish area, meet at the agreed location and walk back to the hotel if practical.
- Tuesday: travel home if your schedule permits. A Monday evening flight creates pressure on a day with closures, crowds and unpredictable finish times.
If your family is coming to watch
The easiest plan is one viewing location followed by a planned reunion. Chasing a runner through several towns is possible, but commuter-rail timing, crowds and road closures leave little margin for error.
Finish area only
This is the simplest choice for visitors who do not know Boston. Arrive early, expect crowds and agree on the post-race meeting point before separating.
Brookline or Newton
These can provide a strong course atmosphere and Green Line access. Supporters must still confirm station closures and whether they can reach the finish before their runner.
Commuter-rail course stop
Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley have been identified in recent B.A.A. spectator guidance. Train frequency is the limiting factor, so wait for the 2027 timetable.
Accessibility details to check
The nearest station is not always the best station. Current B.A.A. guidance notes that Hynes Convention Center station is not accessible, while Copley normally closes on Marathon Monday. Anyone using a wheelchair, travelling with limited mobility or expecting a difficult post-race walk should confirm the 2027 accessible route rather than relying on a normal trip planner.
- Confirm the accessible entrance and elevator status for the station you expect to use.
- Ask the hotel to confirm the exact accessible room features, not only that accessible rooms exist.
- Check the route from the secured finish exit to the hotel entrance.
- Review the B.A.A. accessible viewing locations if a supporter needs one.
Before you book your hotel
- Compare the total price, including taxes, mandatory fees and minimum-night rules.
- Read the cancellation policy. “Official hotel” does not automatically mean fully refundable.
- Map the route from the actual hotel entrance to Charles Street, the finish exit and the expected Expo venue.
- Ask about a refrigerator, microwave or kettle if your race breakfast depends on one.
- Confirm early breakfast rather than assuming the normal restaurant hours will change for runners.
- Ask about luggage storage and late checkout, but do not build the plan around a request that is not guaranteed.
- Check recent noise reviews. A lively central hotel is not useful if it disrupts sleep.
- If family is coming, check bed arrangements and occupancy limits before paying.

Boston Marathon travel FAQ
What is the best area to stay for the Boston Marathon?
Back Bay and Copley Square are the best overall choices for most first-time runners because the finish is on Boylston Street. Park Square and the Public Garden edge are better when walking to the race-morning buses is the main priority.
Should I stay near the start in Hopkinton?
Usually not. The race finishes in Boston, most weekend activity is in Boston and recent participant transportation has taken runners from central Boston to Hopkinton. Stay near the start only with confirmed 2027 transportation and a clear return plan.
Where do the Boston Marathon buses leave from?
For the 2026 race, official participant buses loaded on Charles Street between Boston Common and the Public Garden. Confirm the 2027 location, loading time and wave instructions when the new participant guide is published.
Where is the Boston Marathon finish line?
The race finishes on Boylston Street in Back Bay near Copley Square. Runners continue through the secured finish system before exiting toward the family meeting area.
Where is 2027 bib pickup?
The official 2027 accommodation page currently identifies the Hynes Convention Center at 900 Boylston Street. Confirm the final B.A.A. venue and hours before travelling.
How early should I book a Boston Marathon hotel?
Book once your entry is likely and you find terms you can accept. Read the cancellation policy closely. Central rooms are in heavy demand, but availability can reappear when other runners cancel.
Do I need a rental car?
Most runners staying in central Boston do not. Logan has public transportation into the city, central areas are walkable and Marathon Monday closures make driving difficult.
Is Seaport a good place to stay?
It can work when the rate is meaningfully lower or the hotel confirms a useful marathon shuttle. It is not the easiest base for the finish, current Expo location or Charles Street buses, so compare the full transport plan before choosing it.
