How to use this Europe half marathon calendar

  1. Start with a month or country. This removes races that do not fit your travel window.
  2. Add a race-goal filter only if the list is still long. You can narrow the calendar by course or goal without hiding useful options too early.
  3. Compare two or three races. Review them side by side, then open the official source to confirm the current date, entry route, cutoff and course before booking.

Updated October 3, 2026: This calendar currently includes 83 curated half marathons across 31 European countries. It contains 71 dated editions and 12 established races waiting for their next date. We add a date after finding it on an official organiser or governing-body source. When a new date has not been announced, the race is marked “Next date not announced” instead of being estimated from a previous year. Always confirm the date, entry rules and course before paying for travel.

Choose the kind of European half marathon you want

Fast road races

Valencia, Copenhagen, Berlin, Lisbon and Barcelona are well-known road-racing options with large fields. Manchester is another city choice, while Antrim Coast offers fast coastal road racing rather than a city course. Check the current route and elevation profile before choosing a race for a personal best.

Landmarks and atmosphere

Great North Run, London Landmarks, Paris, Prague, Vienna, Cardiff and Göteborgsvarvet put major landmarks, crowd support or event atmosphere near the centre of the experience. These races can be harder to enter, so look at the registration route as closely as the course.

Destination weekends

A smaller coastal, mountain or historic-city race may suit a holiday better than the largest event. Compare airport access, start and finish locations, bib pickup and Sunday transport before choosing by scenery alone.

A race listing does not guarantee an entry

European half marathons do not all use the same registration system. Some open entries on a first-come basis. Others use a lottery or ballot because demand is higher than the field limit. Popular races can also sell out long before race weekend.

The official Berlin Half Marathon registration page, for example, allocates runner entries through a lottery. The Great North Run uses ballots and also lists charity places and other limited entry routes. These systems can change from one edition to the next, so use the organiser’s current page rather than an old race recap.

Check these details before you commit

  • Entry route: open registration, lottery, ballot, charity place or approved tour operator.
  • Sell-out risk: note the registration opening date instead of waiting to book the entire trip at once.
  • Transfer and refund rules: some entries are personal, non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Cutoff times: confirm the total limit and any course checkpoints.
  • Bib pickup: check the location, deadline and whether someone else may collect for you.

The six SuperHalfs races

The current SH6 SuperHalfs series includes Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia. Since 2025, there has been no time limit for completing all six races. Finishers who complete the series receive the SuperMedal, but each event still controls its own registration, payment and entry rules.

Joining the series does not give you automatic entry to every race. Some cities use ballots or lotteries, while others may use first-come registration. Read the official SuperHalfs FAQ before planning the order of your six races.

Travel paperwork and race logistics

Do not assume registration requirements are the same across Europe. Check the exact race rules before paying for flights or a non-refundable hotel.

  • France: from January 15, 2026, French Athletics Federation rules require many unlicensed adult participants in covered running events to complete the paid PPS pathway and obtain a PPS title. Follow the instructions from your chosen race because the process and deadline matter.
  • Italy: entry requirements can differ by race and participant category. Some competitive events may require federation membership or RUNCARD plus a valid athletics competition medical certificate. Review the organiser’s rules and the relevant FIDAL requirements rather than relying on a general travel article.
  • Bib pickup: an in-person expo deadline may require arriving a day earlier and paying for another hotel night.
  • Start and finish: a point-to-point route may need different transport plans at each end.
  • Travel documents: check passport validity, visa or entry requirements and insurance rules for your own nationality and destination.

Once the entry and travel details are settled, use the half marathon gear checklist to plan what goes in your carry-on. Keep your shoes, race clothing, medication and essential fuel with you instead of putting everything in checked luggage.

Europe half marathon FAQ

Are all European half marathon dates confirmed?

No. Confirmed dates appear in the finder with an official source and checked date. An established race stays in the calendar as “Next date not announced” when the organiser has not yet published its next edition. We do not roll an old date forward and present it as confirmed.

Does this Europe calendar include the United Kingdom?

Yes. The Europe region includes races in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland alongside events in continental Europe. Use the country filter when you only want UK races.

Do European half marathons require a medical certificate?

It depends on the country, race and entry category. France’s PPS system and some Italian medical and membership rules are important examples, but requirements can change. Open the official race regulations before booking travel and complete any paperwork by the stated deadline.

Which European half marathons use a lottery or ballot?

Berlin allocates running places through a lottery, while the Great North Run uses ballot windows and also offers charity and other limited routes. This is not a complete list, and entry systems can change between editions. Check the official registration page even if you entered the same race before.

How do I compare two European half marathons?

Use the selection control on the race cards to choose two or three events, then open the comparison view. Compare the date, location, course and goal tags together. Use the official race links for entry price, cutoff, elevation, field size and current registration status.

What does “Next date not announced” mean?

It means the race is established and relevant to the calendar, but we could not find a confirmed next date from the organiser or governing body. It does not mean the race is cancelled. Use the official source link for the latest announcement.

How current is this calendar?

This page was checked on October 3, 2026. At that update it contained 83 races across 31 countries, with 71 dated editions and 12 waiting for a new date. Race cards show their source and checked date so you can see what was verified.
