Start with the job you want the race to do. The filters above are more useful than picking a marathon because it has the biggest field or the nicest race photo.
For a PB or BQ attemptStart with Road and BQ confirmed. Then compare the course profile, likely weather, turns, crowding and travel required to get there.
For a first marathonUse the First marathon goal filter, then favour simple travel, a reasonable time limit and a course you can train for close to home.
For a destination raceLook at the race and the weekend together. Hotels, start-line transport, food, weather and how much walking you will do can matter almost as much as the course.
Chasing a Boston qualifier in Canada?
Use BQ confirmed as the first filter, not the last check. A qualifying course is only the starting point. Weather, pacing, surface, turns and how tired you are from travel can all affect the day.

- Match the course to the goal. For a time goal, favour a road course you can pace predictably. For trail or mixed-surface races, compare climbing, footing and cutoff times instead.
- Check travel before paying. Look at flights or driving time, hotel availability and how you will get to the start. A simple race weekend can be a real advantage.
- Open the race site before registering. Confirm the date, start time, course map, time limit, transfer rules and current registration status.
- Choose a race you will enjoy training for. A slightly slower course that fits your life can be a better choice than a “perfect” race that makes the whole training block harder.

Why do some races say “Verify BQ”?
It means the marathon is listed, but the current information in the database is not strong enough to label its Boston-qualifier status confirmed. If qualifying is the goal, check directly with the organizer before choosing that race.
Are all 2027 Canadian marathon dates listed?
No. A 2027 edition is added after the organizer publishes a date. That avoids filling the calendar with predicted dates that may later move.
Can I use this calendar for trail marathons too?
Yes. Use the Course filter to find trail, mixed-surface, loop and road events. For a trail marathon, compare climbing, footing, cutoff time and mandatory gear rather than judging it like a road race.
