Garmin Forerunner 170

The Forerunner 170 is the Garmin I would start with for a runner who wants real training tools without jumping straight to a premium model. It has the modern AMOLED screen, Garmin Coach, Training Readiness, Garmin Pay, and a Music version if you want phone-free audio.
It does not have full maps or multi-band GPS, so it is not my top pick for dense city marathons or trail navigation. For normal road running, half marathon training, and many marathon plans, it is enough watch.
