8 Best Running Shirts for Men in 2026: Heat, Long Runs & Value
Men’s running gear · 2026
A good running shirt has a pretty simple job: move sweat, stay out of the way, and not rub. If you stop noticing it a few minutes into the run, it is probably doing its job.
I do not think you need an expensive shirt for every run. I like having a couple of better shirts for long runs, hot workouts, or races, but plenty of my normal training happens in basic technical tees. Some of my free race shirts are genuinely good too.

My running-shirt drawer is a mix of Lululemon, Reebok, H&M Sport/Move, ASICS, Nike, and plenty of free marathon shirts. Some of the cheaper shirts, and a few of the race shirts I got for free, get worn just as much as the expensive ones.
I would not replace a running shirt just because it is not from a premium brand. If it feels comfortable, dries reasonably well, and does not rub, keep wearing it. Spending more starts to make sense when you are trying to fix something specific, like chafing on long runs, a shirt that gets heavy with sweat, or a fit that never feels quite right.
- Your shirt gets soaked and heavy: start with On Performance-T. Janji Run All Day is another light warm-weather option.
- Seams rub on long runs: ASICS ROAD SEAMLESS is the most obvious place to start.
- You want one nicer shirt for running and the gym: lululemon Metal Vent Tech makes the most sense.
- You mostly need more shirts between laundry days: Nike Miler, H&M Move, and Reebok are the sensible options.
The 8 Best Men’s Running Shirts for 2026

On Performance-T
Best for: hot runs, workouts and runners who want a light race-ready shirt
The On Performance-T makes the most sense when heat is the problem. It is very light, close fitting, and heavily ventilated. On a hot workout or race, that can feel great. For a relaxed easy run or casual wear, it may be more technical than you need.
Breathability is the reason to pay the premium here. The back is highly ventilated, the seams are taped, and the shirt is designed to move moisture quickly instead of holding it against your skin.

Janji Run All Day Tee
Best for: warm-weather mileage and runners who prefer a lighter, less fitted feel
I like the Janji Run All Day Tee for runners who want something light without the closer race fit of the On shirt. It still feels technical, but it is a little easier and more relaxed for normal summer mileage.
One thing to know: it will not feel the same for everyone once it is completely soaked. Some runners love the barely-there feel. Others notice more cling in very sweaty conditions.

ASICS ROAD SEAMLESS Short-Sleeve Top
Best for: long runs, humid training and runners bothered by seams
If shirts tend to rub under your arms or along the sides once a run gets long, the ROAD SEAMLESS deserves a look. I notice seam irritation quickly on long runs, so this is the kind of construction I pay attention to. The knit cuts down on bulky seams, and ASICS adds ventilation through areas that tend to get hot.
It is especially appealing for long summer runs, when both friction and heat tend to show up at the same time.

lululemon Metal Vent Tech Short-Sleeve Shirt
Best for: runners who want one nicer shirt for running, training and the gym
I already wear Lululemon shirts for training, and this is the kind of shirt I like when I want something that works for both running and the gym. It has a cleaner fit than a basic race tee and feels more polished than most free event shirts.
What I like about Lululemon shirts is that they stretch well, feel good through different workouts, and work for more than one kind of training. The Metal Vent Tech fits that same run-and-gym role.

Nike Miler Dri-FIT Short-Sleeve Running Top
Best for: daily mileage and runners who want an easy-to-find technical tee
I like the Nike Miler because it is simple. It is light, easy to find, and made for running without costing like a premium race shirt. If you find it on sale, it is the kind of shirt that is easy to buy more than once.
There is nothing complicated about it. Dri-FIT fabric handles sweat, the knit feels light, and the fit works well for ordinary daily mileage.

Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily Shirt
Best for: runners who want one technical shirt for everyday wear, travel, hiking and occasional runs
I own the Capilene Cool Daily, but it usually ends up in my everyday clothes rather than my running pile. It is soft, comfortable, and technical without feeling like dedicated race gear.
If you want one shirt for travel, hiking, casual wear, and the occasional run, it makes a lot of sense. If you are shopping specifically for running, I would choose one of the lighter options above first.

H&M Move Running T-Shirt with DryMove
Best for: easy runs, treadmill days and adding inexpensive shirts to the rotation
I already run in H&M Sport/Move shirts, and they are a good example of why you do not always need to spend a lot. For easy runs and treadmill days, they are usually more than enough.
I already runs in H&M Sport/Move shirts. They are a good reminder that a cheaper technical top can be completely fine. Not every run needs your nicest shirt.

Reebok Men’s Running Short Sleeve Tee
Best for: short daily runs, gym crossover and runners who like a regular fit
I also have Reebok shirts in my regular rotation. They are simple, light, and easy to grab for a short run or gym session. Sometimes that is all I want from a shirt.
I do not reach for Reebok because it has some special technical feature. I reach for it because it is comfortable and uncomplicated.
Before You Buy Another Shirt: Check Your Race Drawer
I have a lot of free marathon shirts. Some are genuinely good enough for regular training. Others get worn once and then slowly disappear toward the back of the drawer.
Before I buy another tee, I usually look at the race shirts I already have. If one is made from light technical fabric, fits without bunching, and stays comfortable when wet, there is no reason not to run in it. A free shirt can still be a very good running shirt.
- Good race tee: light synthetic fabric, smooth seams, comfortable neckline, no heavy print across the chest.
- Better for casual wear: cotton-heavy shirt, thick screen printing, scratchy stitching or a boxy fit that twists when wet.
- Long-run test: if you have only worn it for short easy runs, do not assume it will be comfortable after 90 minutes of sweat.

Here is the short version if you want to compare the options quickly.
What Actually Matters in a Men’s Running Shirt?
When Is a Better Running Shirt Worth Paying For?
Usually when it fixes something that is bothering you. Maybe your shirt gets heavy with sweat. Maybe the seams rub after an hour. Or maybe you want one lighter top for races and hot workouts.
If the Nike, ASICS, Reebok, H&M, Lululemon, or race tee you already own feels good, keep wearing it. I would not replace a shirt that is already working.
Men’s Running Shirt FAQ
What material is best for a running shirt?
Most runners do best with a lightweight technical fabric that moves moisture and dries faster than a normal cotton T-shirt. Polyester and polyester blends are common. Merino can also work well, especially for odour control, but usually costs more.
Is cotton bad for running?
Cotton is comfortable when dry, but it holds a lot of moisture. That can make it feel heavy and increase rubbing on longer or hotter runs. For a short easy run in mild weather, it may be completely fine if it works for you.
Should a men’s running shirt be tight or loose?
Neither is automatically better. A close fit can reduce flapping and feel fast for workouts or races. A regular or slightly relaxed fit often feels better for daily mileage. The important part is avoiding fabric that twists or rubs.
Are free marathon shirts good for running?
Some are excellent. Check the fabric, seams and print rather than the price. A light technical race shirt can be as useful as a purchased training tee. A cotton-heavy or heavily screen-printed shirt is usually better for casual wear.
Why do running shirts start to smell even after washing?
Odour can build up in synthetic fibres over time. Washing soon after a sweaty run, avoiding too much fabric softener and rotating several shirts can help. Shirts with odour-control treatments can also be useful for runners who train frequently.
How many running shirts do I need?
Enough that laundry does not decide whether you can run. For someone running four or five days a week, several inexpensive daily shirts plus one or two better shirts for long runs, workouts or races is usually more practical than buying only premium tops.
Build the rest of the outfit
Once the shirt is sorted, the rest of the outfit should be just as easy to forget about.
